Gabby’s Educational/Professional Background & Her Approach to Therapy
I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist and have been practicing since 2017. My first two years of practice were spent in the community mental health and non-profit setting, due to wanting to provide affordable services to the community and give back, while learning from the diverse population. Also, on a personal note, I am a proud Latina and identify as Mexican-American, which allows for culturally sensitive care for the Latinx community.
I obtained my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from California State University of San Bernardino in 2015. Also, I obtained my Master’s of Science in Counseling Psychology from California Baptist University in 2018.
My approach to therapy consists of an eclectic background, as individuals we are complex and not ‘one size fits all.’ I have a background in working with children, couples, and individuals, of diverse backgrounds. I aspire to help individuals of all backgrounds confront current life stressors, past trauma, and relationship struggles. To do so, I emphasize creating a safe and open environment, while providing psychoeducation, coping skills, tailored to individual treatment. I believe that all individuals have the strength within themselves to live a fulfilling life with strong connection to self and others.
My areas of focus consist of anxiety, family conflict, trauma, life changes/stressors, perfectionism, emotional regulation, self-love/esteem, depressive symptoms, and setting boundaries within relationships. With this, I often implement CBT, mindfulness, and talk therapy with a heart aspect to help the heart be heard to work towards healing and change. Also, I am EMDR trained to focus on trauma, distress tolerance, anxiety, etc. (Please see link in header for more information on EMDR sessions/intensives).
